Heritage Industrial Services recently completed a complex, 8-week turnkey equipment removal and rigging project at the former Cargill facility in Hazle Township, PA. Over the summer, our team cleared major manufacturing and packaging assets while strictly adhering to the project’s critical-path schedule.
Before starting operations, Heritage established a comprehensive, site-specific safety plan to manage heavy rigging maneuvers, crane lifts, and site logistics, ensuring all personnel and property remained safe throughout the multi-week operation.
The Challenge
The scope of work required removing heavy, high-capacity equipment from inside an enclosed facility with severe access constraints.
Key project scope elements included:
- Heavy Equipment Extraction: Dismantling and rigging massive industrial assets, including 20,000-lb. blenders, complete manufacturing lines, and packaging systems.
- Tight Spatial Access: Navigating severe physical site limitations by creating egress routes and rigging major equipment directly through the side of the building.
- High-Volume Logistics: Safely loading out and dispatching over 50 truckloads of machinery and specialized equipment from the site.
- International Freight Prep: Rigging and securing heavy equipment into sea containers designed for overseas export and shipment.
The Execution
Working closely with Lanes Crane for specialized lifting support, Heritage completed the entire 8-week removal within the client’s tight project timeline.
By utilizing creative rigging techniques to extract machinery through side-wall openings, our crews bypassed interior clearance issues without compromising structural safety. Through careful scheduling, certified field expertise, and seamless transport coordination, the team successfully loaded over 50 loads for local transport and international shipping—delivering another high-quality project on schedule.
