Firehouse

Moving the oldest firehouse in the United states

Heritage Industrial Services Inc. moved the oldest firehouse in the United States to New Jersey. The project posed a unique challenge because the historical monument firehouse demanded careful planning and execution to ensure its safe relocation.

The project’s objective was to relocate the old wooden firehouse, claimed to be the oldest in the country, to the new Relief Fire Engine Company #1 facility. The firehouse would be refurbished and placed on exhibit in the planned firefighting history center.

This project’s biggest challenge was ensuring the historical structure’s safe movement. The firehouse was 8x12x11 feet in size and needed to be transported 100 feet to its new location. Heritage Industrial Services took special care to preserve the structure’s integrity during the move.
